Castle of Mineluba

Author:
Seiju Takeyama & Ari Kamijo
Release:
"R.P.G. no Tsukurikata" (Oct. 1986)
("R.P.G.の作り方" in Japanese
)
Japanese title name:
"ミネルバの城"
Return key: it must be pressed to load the game.   1~3 keys: The floor # you'd like (elevator access).
Y or N key: Attack or flee (the battle scene)  /  Yes or no (for each question).
F1: Save the game.   F2: Load the game.

The game:

Princess Kiriko, who had just turned 10 years old, had one pet cat.
One day, the cat was missing. Kiriko thought that her archenemy, a dragon, had eaten the cat.
So she attacked it by surprise. The dragon was so surprised that it dropped its own treasure, a crystal.
The cat was quickly found, but when the cursed smoke from the broken crystal enveloped Kiriko, her face became so ugly.
In order to restore her own face to its original state, Kiriko asked an old acquaintance, a witch.
The witch said that in order to be young again, one needs a magic potion in Minerva's castle, but there is only one way out of the castle.
That is to project one's reflection in the "mirror of the real" at the far end.
But time moves fast in the castle, and Kiriko gets old very quickly.
...Kiriko's original weapon is claws, but she enters the castle with her brother's mace.
Maces and swords are found in the castle, but all of them deteriorate and break after long use, so it's better to get new ones.
Magic potions include those that increase or decrease the beauty value "CAL," rejuvenate "AGE", or restore HP.
The ending of the game is changed by the "CLASS," which is determined by the combination of the "CAL" and "AGE" values.

The original version:

The 1st file named "MINELUBA.BAS":
Particular attention should be paid when typing lines below.
mineluba-notes
In addition, it recommends to modify following lines.
mineluba-save-load-file
The original map file name was "MEIRO", and the 2 saved data files name were "SAVE.DAT" & "M", but we believe that an extension is necessary.
"MINELUBA" string should be also included. I'm assuming that we're managing a huge amount of MSX games' files.
mineluba-overlapped-words
There is one issue that cannot be ignored. (Japanese version only.)
When an enemy appears at the location of the Fountain of Life,
if the enemy's name is short, the end of the message stating that the fountain is there can be visible.
To fix this issue, modify the lines #1360 & #3150 as below. In addition, modify the line #2590. There was an author's typo.

By the modifications described above, each checksum changes as follows (using version 3.1 coded by the "MSX•FAN" team).
checksum-of-mineluba-1st-file
Make sure you've created "MNLB-MAP.BIN" after run the 2nd file. After run the 1st file, the game will be loaded correctly.

The 2nd file:
It recommends to modify the line #230.
mineluba-2nd-file-line230
The original map file name was "MEIRO", but we believe that an extension is necessary.
I'm assuming that we're managing a huge amount of MSX games' files.
Each checksum is as follows (using version 3.1 coded by the "MSX•FAN" team).
checksum-of-mineluba-2nd-file
After run this file once, the map file named "MNLB-MAP.BIN" will be created.

My suggestions for English version:

Modify following lines. (Sorry I ignored REM strings.)

If you modify the code as described above, each checksum will change as follows (using version 3.1 coded by the "MSX•FAN" team).

English version!

Joystick support:

"STICK(0)" is found in the line #1390. The quickest way is to simply replace each "0" with "1".
In addition, type following lines.

Now you don't have to press Y, N, 1, 2 and 3 keys any more.

For CD32+FDD users:

AmiMSX cannot enlarge sprites. The address of each sprite must be adjusted.

Ninja Girl O'chacha

Editor:
Seiju Takeyama & Ari Kamijo
Release:
"R.P.G. no Tsukurikata" (Oct. 1986)
("R.P.G.の作り方" in Japanese
)
Japanese title name:
"くのいちお茶々よヘルプ・ミー"
This version is an official mod of the original game "Castle of Mineluba".

The game:

It is the spring of the year in which the Hundred Years War ended in Europe and the United States, and here is Osaka.
Under the orders of the Tokugawa clan,
Kunoichi O'chacha went to the secret basement of Osaka Castle to rescue the prince who had been captured by the demon king Ijaime.

Note:

Type the lines on the pages 124~125. Then type:
SAVE"OCHACHA.ASC",A
But it strongly recommends to modify or add following lines before save the file.

There is the same issue that cannot be ignored. (Japanese version only.)
When an enemy appears at the location of the Fountain of Life,
if the enemy's name is short, the end of the message stating that the fountain is there can be visible.
To fix this issue, modify the lines #1360 & #3150 as below.

In addition, there were author's typos in the line #6620 and #6630.
The line #6790 must be modified, too.
Furthermore, four lines are missing from the list (#1180, #3540, #6980 and #7050). Add them.

If you modify the code as described above, each checksum will change as follows (using version 3.1 coded by the "MSX•FAN" team).

After complete the file correctly, type:
LOAD"MINELUBA.BAS"
MERGE"OCHACHA.ASC"
SAVE"OHACHA.BAS"
RUN
Of course you can omit the 3rd line.

My suggestions for English version:

Create an English version of "MINELUBA.BAS", first. Then type following lines with modification described as below.

After that, type only the lines #1020 and #5980~#6140 on the pages 124~125.
Finally type following:
5290 LOCATE 17,11:PRINT KA$(KA)
SAVE"OCHA-EN.ASC",A
Each checksum is as follows (using version 3.1 coded by the "MSX•FAN" team).

Now you can use this "OCHA-EN.ASC" instead of "OCHACHA.ASC".
English version.
