"Ultimate Maze" (Amiga FPS game)

You probably cannot forget this game...

Features:
A gloomy story.
The ultra complicated maze explodes your brain.
Unforgettable brutal gory scenes in the battle traveling beyond time.
Its difficulty would make even "Nightmare mode of DOOM" players cry.
You will become fearful of darkness if once you get stuck in darkness levels.
The 4th dimension would make you mad easily.
A hidden "secret level" and "secret ending" would be presented to super players.

How to install in your hard disk:

1. Download this file and unzip it at your workbench screen.
2. Doubleclick "ultimate-maze" or "um-prg" icon. The game would be loaded.

If you would like to change c2p routine, doubleclick "setup" icon first.
"setup" requires diskfont.library, mathtrans.library and asl.library.

ADF version:

Of course you can download ADF version.
Download this file and unzip it.
If you are WinUAE user, simply insert ADF file then boot.
If you are CD32+FDD user, first you have to transfer to your own 2 empty diskettes.

The Game:

This game is First Person Shooter for 1 player.
In each level, your goal is to find an exit before your 3 lives run out.
In specific levels, you have to defeat (..or escape from) boss enemies.

For Analogic FDD users:
To sidestep left/right, you have to use Amiga keyboard. First you must choose "KEYBOARD" at the title screen.
Hold Left-Alt key and press left/right arrow key to sidestep left/right. Press Left-Amiga key to shoot.
Mega Drive 6 button pad's direction key is really good response, however, this time I cannot recommend you to use it.

It's because this game is extremely hard.  Especially this game, it matters whether you can sidestep or not.
You can also pause/show menu by Esc key of Amiga keyboard.

Players' characters have no sprites for saving your CD32 RAM space. ( It would make speed of the game slightly faster.)
You don't have to use other sprites even if you have enough RAM. It is because 2 players mode is not available.
This time you play the role of a glum man.
It was 1995, when you entered this maze for your first time, you challenged its event for anniversary of opening that theme park.
The owner held a competition that it awarded a gold bar to the first challenger who could reach it in the depth of this maze.
At that time you were brimming over with dream and hope.
As times passed, however, you were disappointed in love and job, and you would be going toward that maze again in 2005 & 2015.

Standard Gun

Your standard weapon.
Too weak, you say?
This was a gun which you could buy with your small saving somehow or other.

Health

It heals 5 points of your HP.
In this game, you can get almost of them automatically.
Except for those cases, don't expect!

Scenes:

Area 1

It's the first half of the area which has originally existed from 1995.
It seems that there were many people died at this area till today,
so this area has grown much more complicated
while the maze has eaten people's avarice.
Because these complicated maze distort even space-time,
you will be confused by lots of phenomena that are beyond human understanding.
In 2015, you must keep following fact in mind.
If once you lose sight of a little girl statue, it's your death sign.

Area 2

It's the latter half of the area which has originally existed from 1995.
Each passage width becomes narrow, so you will be confused easily.
The gold bar must have been existed in this area, too.
In 1995, (fortunately?) only you failed to enter this area.
You will be able to enter this area in 2005 for your first time, however,
you will see havoc that people kills each other.
They have traveled beyond time and can be classified into two kinds;
"challengers" of the competition in 1995
and "hoodlums" who have entered this maze for the gold bar in a later age.
In addition, nowadays we can even hear a rumor about Minotaur.

Area 3 & Area 4

These areas originally didn't exist when the maze opened in 1995.
They're mysterious areas which were born while the maze had grown.
Seen from the sky, we can confirm complicatedly-curved passages,
however, it seems unable to take aerial photographs clean
due to unknown reason.
So no one knows actually how is that going.
It's really mysterious...

CD32 +FDD (without RAM expansion) Users:

At your first time, don't forget to choose "akiko_1" for c2p routine.
It's almost no problem if you play every levels at "1x1 resolution & 2nd ~ 3rd size" screen.
You can make your screen smaller if you feel that the game becomes sluggish. ( e.g. Area 2 )
Actually I have tested all levels on my CD32 + Analogic FDD.

Make your own disk2 writable to unlock "Standard 7 levels mode" & "Secret level and ending" later.

WinUAE or 030+ Amiga users:

You can play all levels at 1px*1px full screen (the 7th screen) except darkness levels.
Please set screen size the 5th size when you reach darkness levels,
otherwise the game would crash because there are many transparent walls in darkness levels.
Darkness levels are the 4th level & the 5th level of 2015 maze.
If you want to play these darkness level at 1x1 full screen, don't look full into a transparent window.
I assume that this bug has nothing to do with your CPU nor RAM, perhaps it's just a limit of program itself.
I have already tested all levels by the method described above.

Other Known Bugs:

I know those situations (see this screenshots).
Even now I don't know how to fix 100%. I assume that this is one of the MapED's bugs.

Unlock hidden features !!

If once you could complete
"2015 MAZE Level 6 ~ 8" series,
you can see "The End" screen.
You should recognise that it was "normal mode".
(Yes we know, it was obviously harder than original "Gloom".)
After that, "Standard 7 levels mode" would be unlocked.
If you are an advanced FPS player,
why don't you try this "hard mode" ?!
If once you complete even this "Standard 7 levels mode",
a secret level and secret ending would be unlocked, too.
Good luck !!

History:

1/3/2015:  This page and EAB thread were published.
29/3/2015: Sub title name is dropped. Japanese version becomes available.
22/8/2015: Big update! Highly recommended to download this version if you are interested yet.

New status bar.
You don't have to assign anymore.(e.g. gloom3: , ulmaze: )
Upgraded textures:
Reduced transparent part from the outer scenery.
So you don't have to set your screen size smaller when you see outer scenery around an exit of the maze.
Improved gory scenes of the 2nd area. Now 128 colors are used and it makes blood more realistic.
Edited some sprites of objs.
objs/ghost becomes smaller. And new sprite file are presented for Spirits.
objs/person&person2 are totally remade. It becomes crueller.
objs/shadow is edited. Their eyes would flash.
Some wall-bugs are fixed. (maps/map1_1, map2_1, map3_7)
You can choose c2p routine even if you enjoy ADF version.
Misc/bigfont&smallfont were removed. It was unnecessary.
Edited misc/gun.bin: You will see "Cheater!" word when you shoot 2nd+ gun.
18/12/2016  *minor update* This worry had hung on my mind over 1 year..., of course, I mean "G" statue of Map3_2.
Now I have fixed it. (Switched "G" statue and "M" statue.)
Don't worry, if you couldn't reach this level and gave up forever, just ignore it. Thank you in advance.

Don't claim about its difficulty. I am happy if you have already beat "Hell" levels of original Gloom
or my previous big title,"Did IT come from the desert?" at least,
otherwise you might give up this game in the second episode (2005 MAZE).

All sound effects files, graphics files (objects' sprites, textures, title & demo screens) and maps were made by nittamituaki, in 2015.
"Gloom 3" 's original program files (gloom2) was made by Mark Sibly. This "gloom2" file was edited by nittamituaki, in 2015.
In 2013, Gareth Murfin changed "Gloom 3" copyrights' state to public domain.
